A gambling rogue seduces rich women in order to use their dowries to support his decadent lifestyle and pay off his debts. When he falls in love with a copper heiress in the process of trying to swindle her, he must decide between the wealth and power their marriage would bring him, and the social disgrace she would encounter if his prior indiscretions were ever made public.
