Based on the life story of screenwriter Ray Notaro, middleweight boxing champion, owner of Left Hook Gym and Boxing School, and personal trainer to Sylvester Stallone during the production of "Rocky III" (1982). The screenplay follows Ray as a young child, engaging in petty theft and enduring physical abuse from his alcoholic father, to his time as a soldier in the Korean War, to his eventual success as a boxer.

Set in New York and Canada.
