Based on screenwriter Josef Shaftel's experiences working as a newspaper correspondent in 1948 in the Middle East during the Arab-Israeli conflict, during which time he falls in love with a Jewish refugee and gradually becomes sympathetic to the Zionist cause. Shaftel's story was also the basis for a 1962 novel by Robert Nathan.

Set in Rome, Israel, and Palestine.

Blue titled wrappers. Title page present, dated JUNE 5, 1978, noted as REVISED FIRST DRAFT, with credits for screenwriter JOSEF SHAFTEL. 125 leaves, with last page of text numbered 133. Xerographic duplication, rectos only, with undated yellow revision pages throughout. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Very Good plus, with a small dampstain affecting the front wrapper and lower page edge, bound with two gold brads.
