Based on Leo Tolstoy's 1872 novella, about two Russian soldiers who are kidnapped by rival militia. Screenwriter Eugene Lourie was best known as an art director, but also had success in screenwriting "Revolt in the Big House" (1958) and "The Giant Behemoth" (1959), and in directing "The Colossus of New York" (1958) and "Gorgo" (1961).
Set in the North Caucasus.
