Based on the life and exploits of the outlaw Harry Tracy, about whom the Seattle Daily Times noted in 1902 "there is no record equal to that of Harry Tracy for cold-blooded nerve, desperation and thirst for crime. Jesse James, compared with Tracy, is a Sunday school teacher." Screenwriter Andrew J. Fenady was best known as a writer and producer for Western and crime films, including "Stakeout on Dope Street" (1958), "Ride Beyond Vengeance" (1966) and, "Chisum" (1970).

Set in Missouri and Wyoming.
