Based on Christina Crawford's 1978 memoir, about her troubled childhood and trying to live up to her mother's high standards. The careers of both Joan Crawford and Faye Dunaway were on the decline at the time of the film's release, but Dunaway's campy acting gave the film life, and helped resurrect her career, while perhaps shedding new, unsavory light on Crawford.
