Murphy was best known for "Fantomas" (1920), "Don't Shoot" (1922), "Leatherstocking" (1924), and "Rose of the Bowery" (1927). She married director-producer Mervyn LeRoy in 1927, but after their highly publicized 1932 divorce found herself blacklisted in Hollywood, forcing her to retire from film in 1933.
