Francois (Jean-Claude Brialy), a theology student suffering from TB, returns to his home-town after ten years to recuperate, and finds his friend Serge (Blain) depressed, alcoholic, and mourning the death of he and his wife Yvonne's (Michele Meritz) stillborn child.
