The Return of Sophie Lang

Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1936. Draft script for the 1936 film. Single annotation in manuscript pencil, "Paramount Studio File Copy," "File Copy," "Master File," and production number "1492" stamps on front wrapper. Script divided into sequences, as was customary for the period.

Based on the short stories published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1925 by Frederick Irving Anderson. The second in the Sophie Lang series, preceded by "The Notorious Sophie Lang" directed by Ralph Murphy and starring Gertrude Michael and Paul Cavanagh, and followed by "Sophie Lang Goes West" directed by Charles Reisner and starring Gertrude Michael and Lee Bowman.

Notorious jewel thief Sophie Lang (Gertrude Michael) fakes her own death so she can leave her life of crime and begin anew, becoming the travel companion to elderly jewel collector Mrs. Araminta Sedley (Elizabeth Patterson). Things go afoul when fellow thief Max Bernard, aka Nigel Crane (Guy Standing), recognizes Sophie and threatens to reveal her true identity if she does not help him steal Mrs. Sedley's diamond.

Self wrappers, rubber-stamped 1492, dated April 17, 1936. 158 leaves, with last page of text numbered E-31. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine with single line of dried adhesive residue on title page, saddle-stapled with two staples.
