Based on the 1962 novel, following an unemployed African American handyman conscripted by a group of Eastern European nuns into building a chapel for them in the Arizona desert. Nominated for five Academy Awards and winning one for Best Actor for Sidney Poitier, making him the first African American man to receive an Oscar.

Set and shot on location in Arizona.
