Adapted from the teleplay "Big Deal in Laredo," written by Sidney Carroll, originally aired on "The DuPont Show of the Week," on NBC, October 7, 1962, starring Walter Matthau, Teresa Wright, and Zachary Scott.

Meredith (Henry Fonda), his wife Mary (Joanne Woodward), and their young son are passing through Laredo, Texas during an annual high-stakes poker game, when Meredith decides to buy into the game. After losing all of their family savings he suffers a physical breakdown, prompting the attention of a doctor and for his wife Mary (Joanne Woodward) to take over his hand. Because she has no more money to bet, she takes a loan from the bank based on her hand.

Set in Laredo, TX and filmed on location in Flagstaff, AZ.
