Cries and Whispers [Viskningar och rop]

Stockholm: Cinematograph AB, 1972. Three vintage borderless black-and-white photographs taken on the set of the 1972 film, two showing director Ingmar Bergman, and the other showing Bergman with actresses Harriet Andersson, Kari Sylwan, and Ingrid Thulin. With manuscript pencil and ink annotations to the verso.

In her last days, a woman dying of uterine cancer is moved to her childhood home, where she is cared for by her emotionally distant sisters and distraught maid. Bergman's abstracted portrait of his mother, with each of the women in the film representing an aspect of her personality.

Shot on location at Taxinge-Nasby Castle in Mariefred, Sweden.
