Grieving withdrawn widow Serefina (Magnani) apprehensively considers an affair with truck driver Alvaro (Burt Lancaster) after she learns of her late husband's infidelity.

Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Actress for Anna Magnani and Best Cinematography, nominated for five more, including Best Picture.

Set in a small Mississippi Gulf town, shot on location in Key West, Florida.
