Original photograph of Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee in a promotional test photograph for The Avengers, circa 1967

Diana Rigg (subject)
Alun Hughes (designer)

N.p. N.p., Circa 1967. Vintage double weight satin-finish test photograph of actors Diana Rigg and Patrick Macnee in costume as Emma Peel and John Steed, respectively, in a promotional shot for "The Avengers," circa 1967. With a printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso, along with a stamp for St. Cross Features. From the archive of the PIX Agency, a photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.

Here, Rigg and Macnee sport designs by Pierre Cardin, an avant-garde Italian designer, and costumer Alun Hughes. Cardin was hired to update the characters' wardrobe for the series' international debut and transition to being filmed in color, and subsequently brought the costuming in an edgier, unprecedentedly groovy direction.

7 x 11 inches. Near Fine.
