Based on George Sessions Perry's 1941 novel "Hold Autumn in Your Hand." A poor southern family struggles to establish a cotton crop in Texas, hoping to fend off starvation and the hardships of rural life. The fourth of six American films made by director Jean Renoir, and the only film for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
