Set in 1988 Prague, during the last days of Soviet Occupation of Czechoslovakia, confirmed bachelor and lady's man, Louka, in need of money, agrees to marry a Russian woman seeking Czech citizenship, and ends up having to care for her sickly 5 year old son Kolya.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. One of the most successful films to have come out of the Czech Republic.
