Ziegfeld Follies: "Limehouse Blues"

Fred Astaire, Lucille Bremer (starring)
Johnny Florea (photographer)
Vincente Minnelli (director)

N.p. N.p., Circa 1942. Vintage oversize satin-finish photograph from the 1945 film, showing actor Fred Astaire performing a dance scene in a bellboy uniform, surrounded by women in horrific oversize headpieces. With the stamp of still photographer Johnny Florea on the verso (dated 1943), and his debossed blind stamp at the bottom right corner of the recto.

In heaven, showman Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. fondly recalls his first Broadway revue, the Ziegfeld Follies of 1907. He finds himself hoping that he can just once more create that same magic in the form of follies. As he thinks about who he would like to appear in his production, he imagines being assisted by such luminaries as Fred Astaire, Edward Arnold, Lucille Ball, Marion Bell, Lucille Bremer, Fanny Brice, Cyd Charisse, Judy Garland, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, Gene Kelly, James Melton, Victor Moore, Virginia O'Brien, Red Skelton, Esther Williams, Keenan Wynn, and, of course, a bevy of beautiful girls.
