Based on the 1947 semi-autobiographical novel by Malcolm Lowry. A former British consul in a small Mexican town reunites with his wife after her yearlong absence due to his alcoholism. Nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Albert Finney, as well as the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Set in 1938 Quauhnahuac, Mexico, and shot on location throughout Morelos, Mexico.
