Based on M.P. Shiel's 1901 novel "The Purple Cloud." A miner trapped in a cave for several days resurfaces, only to realize humankind has been virtually wiped out in a nuclear holocaust. He travels to New York, where he bands together with a young woman survivor, but their fragile existence is soon disrupted by the arrival of another survivor.
