Widely considered Mel Brooks' finest comedy, and surely the peak of his powers as a director. One of the few modern film comedies in the National Film Registry, joined by two of Brooks' other masterpieces, "The Producers" (1968) and "Blazing Saddles" (1974). Nominated for two Academy Awards, another entity well known for ignoring most comedies.
