Based on Leo Tolstoy's 1899 novel "Resurrection." A Russian prince seduces an innocent young servant, leading to her pregnancy and subsequent termination from her job, forcing her into a life of poverty and degradation. The second of three films produced by Samuel Goldwyn to star the then-unknown Sten, who Goldwyn believed would become the "new Garbo," a prediction which ultimately proved incorrect.

Set in Moscow.
