Based on the 1956 novel by Nelson Algren. Hallie, a former artist who now works at an upscale French Quarter bordello, is forced to confront her past when her ex-lover arrives in town. One of the first Hollywood films to openly feature a lesbian relationship, between the madam of the bordello (Barbara Stanwyck) and Hallie (Capucine).
