Contempt [Le Mepris]
Paris: Les Films Concordia, 1963. Vintage borderless reference photograph from the 1963 film, showing actors Brigitte Bardot and Jack Palance at a gas station.
Based on the 1954 Italian novel "Il disprezzo" ("A Ghost at Noon") by Alberto Moravia. Director Jean-Luc Godard's lush Technicolor landmark, the film that transformed Brigitte Bardot from a sex symbol into an art object, while also furthering Godard's own reputation for being the most commercially successful deconstructionist in film history. A fascinating film that can be watched either as a narrative about a disintegrating relationship or as an unending series of pure cinematic references.
