An End of Lies: Glimpses of Russia
N.p. N.p., Circa 1990. Vintage typed travel journal from a month long trip to Finland, Leningrad, Odessa, and Moscow in 1990.
A thoughtful journal documenting a group tour of Russia and Finland, organized by Trinity Church in New York, with the intention of strengthening cultural ties between the Russian Orthodox church and the Episcopalian community of the United States. In addition to ruminations on the nature of tourism and US-Russia relations, descriptions of day-to-day activities, and religious reflections, the diary includes descriptions of trip highlights such as notes from a visit by guest lecturer Madeleine L'Engle, who apparently led the group in guided meditation during a stay at the New Valamo monastery in Heinavesi, Finland.
Clear mylar front wrapper, green rear wrapper. 45 leaves, with last page of text numbered 83. Xerographic duplication, rectos and versos. Pages and wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with three silver brads.
