A Kind of Loving
London: Rank Film Distributors, 1962. Vintage borderless reference photograph of John Schlesinger directing Alan Bates and June Ritchie on the set of the 1962 British film. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso, along with the stamp of Rank Film Distributors.
Based on the 1960 novel by Stan Barstow. Along with "Billy Liar" (1963), Schlesinger's first feature film is perhaps the quintessential document of middle-class life in Northern England during the early 1960s. Alan Bates plays a young and somewhat ambitious factory worker who becomes carelessly involved with a young woman and gets her pregnant, resulting in suffocating consequences for both parties.
Set and shot on location in Manchester.
9.5 x 7.5 inches. Near Fine.
