Based on the 1960 novel by Stan Barstow. Along with "Billy Liar" (1963), Schlesinger's first feature film is perhaps the quintessential document of middle-class life in Northern England during the early 1960s. Alan Bates plays a young and somewhat ambitious factory worker who becomes carelessly involved with a young woman and gets her pregnant, resulting in suffocating consequences for both parties.

Set and shot on location in Manchester.

9.5 x 7.5 inches. Near Fine.
