Lachman is best known for his work as a cinematographer, collaborating with a variety of prominent directors throughout his long career, including Wim Wenders, Shirley Clarke, Todd Haynes, Larry Clark, Sofia Coppola, and Steven Soderbergh. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for his work as cinematographer for Todd Haynes' films "Far From Heaven" (2002) and "Carol" (2015).
