London: Methuen, 1965. First UK Edition, preceding all others. Copy belonging to actor Robert Phalen, with his name in manuscript ink annotation on the front endpaper.

Phalen was a member of San Francisco's Actor's Workshop in the early 1960s, where he appeared in Harold Pinter's play "The Caretaker" in 1960, and would go on to appear in the revival of Pinter's 1960 play "The Birthday Party" in 1971.

Basis for the 1973 film directed by Peter Hall, starring Vivien Merchant, Paul Rogers, and Ian Holm.

Near Fine in a Very Good dust jacket. Jacket moderately rubbed, with chips on the top edges of the front and rear panels.
