Spillane appeared sporadically in mystery and crime films throughout the 1950s and 1960s, including roles in adaptations of his Mike Hammer novels, such as "Ring of Fear" (1954) and "The Girl Hunters" (1963)—the latter being one of the few occasions in film history in which an author of a popular literary hero has portrayed his own character.
