Based on Sheridan Le Fanu's 1872 novella "Carmilla," the third and final film in Hammer Film's lesbian-themed Gothic vampire series "The Karnstein Trilogy," preceded by "The Vampire Lovers" (1970) and "Lust for a Vampire" (1971).

Set in Styria, shot on location in Buckinghamshire, England, and in Belgrade, Serbia.
