An Irish stage, film, and television actor, Fitzgerald began his career in the 1910s at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. He made his film debut in Alfred Hitchcock'c "Juno and the Paycock" (1930), but he did not make prominence until he starred in "Going My Way" (1944) opposite of actor Bing Crosby, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He is also known for "The Quiet Man" (1952) and "And Then There Were None" (1945).
