Nightmare Alley

New York: Rinehart, 1946. First Edition. Publisher's colophon on the copyright page as called for.

William Lindsay Gresham's first book, a masterful and dispassionate descent into the carny world, based largely on the author's own experiences and investigations. Basis for the notable 1947 film noir directed by Edmund Goulding, starring Tyrone Power, Coleen Gray, and Joan Blondell.

Fine in a jacket that is Near Fine but for stain along the rear flap fold (see images). Owner stamp on the front pastedown (covered by front flap). Jacket spine panel faintly toned, with light dampstains on the bottom left corner of the rear panel and flap fold, and a small closed tear on the bottom edge of the front panel. Despite these minor flaws, an excellent copy.

The Dark Page I: 1940-1949, p. 122.
