Based on Jules Verne's 1873 novel, and the first American adaptation (after Richard Oswald's 1919 German film), about two men who make a high-stakes bet that, using new modes of transportation, they can circumnavigate the globe in 80 days. The second film produced in Todd's proprietary 70mm Todd-AO widescreen process, preceded by "Oklahoma!" in 1955.

Nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning five, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay.

Shot on location in Japan, England, California, New Mexico, Thailand, Spain, Colorado, Paris, China, Oklahoma, and Bangladesh.
