Acclaimed feminist director Margarethe von Trotta is considered one of the galvanizing forces behind the New German Cinema movement. With a career spanning six decades and counting, her films address domestic violence, contraception, relationships between women, shifting gender roles in the twentieth century, and, more broadly, the slippage between the personal and the political.
