Girlfriends
Burbank, CA: Warner Brothers, Circa 1978. Collection of 14 vintage photographs from the 1978 film, including five borderless reference photographs and nine studio still photographs.
A young, single photographer struggles to maintain her friendship with her former roommate after the woman marries and moves out of their longtime shared apartment. Weill's first feature film, a warm and incisive depiction of life as a woman in New York in the late 1970s, described by Stanley Kubrick in 1980 as "one of the very rare American films that I would compare with the serious, intelligent, sensitive writing and filmmaking that you find in the best directors in Europe. It wasn't a success, I don't know why; it should have been."
Shot on location in New York.
Studio stills 10 x 8 inches, reference photographs 9.5 x 7 inches. Fine.
National Film Registry. Criterion Collection 1055.
