Arthur Penn's unusual career as a director began with "Mickey One" (1965), "The Chase" (1966), and "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967), three films that amounted to the dynamite under the bridge that was the remnants of the Hollywood studio system, heralding the start of the New American Cinema.
