London: Planet News, 1947. Vintage press photograph of famed heavyweight boxer Joe Louis jumping over his luggage after arriving at Grand Central Terminal in New York on November 4, 1947. Printed mimeo snipe and "Daily Mirror" and "Planet News" stamps on the verso.
Louis would begin training at Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, in preparation for his fight against Jersey Joe Walcott on December 5 of that same year.
From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.
7.25 x 10 inches, archivally matted in a 14 x 18 inch 8-ply white mat. Very Good, top and bottom edges wavy, with annotations in manuscript ink on the recto indicating cropping.
