Two original press photographs of William F. Buckley Jr., circa 1965

William F. Buckley Jr. (subject)
Jim Seymour (photographer)

N.p. N.p., Circa 1965. Two vintage borderless double weight press photographs of conservative author and political commentator William F. Buckley Jr., in a debate during his 1965 campaign for New York mayoral office. Printed mimeo snipe and stamp of PIX agency crediting photographer Jim Seymour on the versos.

Buckley's run for mayor was largely a tactic to take votes from the more liberal Republican candidate John Lindsay, and he purportedly did not expect (or desire) to win.

From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.

One 9.25 x 7.75 inches, the other 9.75 x 8 inches, both cropped as used during preparation for publication. Both photos Very Good, one with a bruise at the bottom right corner (see image).
