Mann and his wife moved from Germany to Switzerland after Hitler rose to power in 1933, and then from Switzerland to California in 1939. They lived in the states for the next 13 years, ultimately returning to Switzerland in 1952.
From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969.
