Based on Tristan Bernard's 1913 play. A gambler commits suicide after losing the last of his fortunes at the roulette wheel, leaving his wife and young son to fall into destitution. Bernhardt appeared as the titular character in the stage play, reprising her role for the screen.

Set in Paris.
