From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.

Janet Gaynor was a film, stage, and television actress who starred in over 50 films, with all but two made between 1924 and 1938, the year Gaynor retired at the top of the industry at the age of 33. In 1929 Gaynor was the first recipient of the Academy Award for Best Actress for performances in three films, marking the only occasion an actress won an Academy Award for multiple film roles. By the mid-1930s Gaynor was ready to retire from acting, but was convinced by producer David O. Selznick to be the lead in the new Technicolor talkie "A Star Is Born," ultimately earning her an Academy Award nomination. Gaynor returned to acting in the early 1950s, and in 1957 appeared in her final film role in the musical comedy "Bernardine."
