From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.

George Murphy was a popular song-and-dance man in big-budget Hollywood musicals in the 1930s and 1940s, and from 1944 to 1946 served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild. In 1965 Murphy was elected as US Senator for California (the first notable American actor elected to statewide office in California) and served as Senator until 1971. Murphy is best remembered for "Broadway Melody of 1938" (1937), "Broadway Melody of 1940" (1940), and "Me and My Gal" (1942). He received an honorary Academy Award in 1951.

Julie Murphy, née Johnson, began her career as a chorus girl in vaudeville, working for choreographer Ned Wayburn, before becoming an exhibition ballroom dancer with her husband, George Murphy. She retired from performing in the mid-1930s.
