You Can't Cheat an Honest Man
Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1939. Three vintage reference photographs from the 1939 film, two of W.C. Fields with Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy, and one of Fields with Eddie "Rochester" Anderson. Two of the photographs with a Universal Studios stamp crediting photographer Ray Jones, two photographs with mimeo snipes, and two with an additional stamp, all on the verso.
From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.
W.C. Fields is the owner of a shady circus constantly on the run from the law and creditors, and clearly not paying his performers who are intent on getting their due.
8 x 10 inches. Near Fine overall, one photograph with four cello tape remnants in the top and bottom margins.
