Curtis made his screen debut in Universal's crime film "Criss Cross" (1949), and was largely cast in bit parts in crime dramas and Western films. As the actor received more and more fan letters, Universal cast Curtis in his first starring role in 1951, in "The Prince Who Was a Thief." The film was a hit, and Curtis' career took off.
From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.
