Francis Joins the WACS

Universal City: Universal-International, 1954. Two vintage publicity photographs from the 1954 film, including one keybook photograph showing actor Donald O'Connor with Francis, and one showing actress Mamie Van Doren in a cheeky salute. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso of one photograph.

A junior officer is mistakenly assigned to the Women's Army Corps, where he encounters numerous tricky situations—largely due to his talking mule. The fifth film in the Francis the Talking Mule series.

From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.
