Dorothy Hart (subject)

Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1949. Vintage publicity photograph of Dorothy Hart, 1949.

From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.

A former model, Dorothy Hart appeared in only 16 films from 1947 to 1952, when she retired from film acting, occasionally appearing in guest spots on television series and game shows. After her debut film, the 1947 "Gunfighters," she was signed to a contract with Universal Pictures, largely starring B-movie westerns, costume dramas, prison sagas, and Tarzan movies, as well as the 1951 Cold War cult classic "I Was a Communist for the F.B.I."
