Based on Alan Burgess' 1957 biography "Small Woman," about the life of Christian missionary Gladys Aylward, a British woman who traveled to China in order to work at a mission in Yangcheng, despite her working class background and lack of education. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best DIrector.
Shot on location in Snowdonia, North Wales.
