N.p. N.p., Circa 1937. Vintage photograph of Universal Studios art director John Harkrider on the set of the 1937 film "Top of the Town," inspecting miniature set models in advance of the construction of the full-size sets. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso.

Harkrider served as both art director and costume designer for Universal through the mid- to late-1930s, and is best remembered today for "Swing Time" (1936), "Three Smart Girls" (1936), and "The Lady Fights Back" (1937).

From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.
