Both of the photographs with Jones' photographer's stamp on the verso, one also with a studio stamp for Tobin as a "Universal Player" on the verso.
From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s.
Stage and screen actress Genevieve Tobin began her screen career at the age of eleven in the 1910 silent short "Uncle Tom's Cabin." From 1910 to 1940 Tobin appeared in over fourty films, before retiring from acting in 1940 at the age of 41. Among her best remembered films include, "King Lear" (1923), "Polly Preferred" (1923), "A Lady Surrenders" (1930), "Free Love" (1930), "One Hour with You" (1932), "Kiss and Make Up" (1934), and her final film, "No Time for Comedy" (1940). Tobin is also of note for her popular performance of the Cole Porter song "You Do Something to Me," which she performed in the 1929 Broadway play "Fifty Million Frenchmen."
