Valli appeared in bit parts in Italian comedies between 1934 and 1940, finally making her dramatic debut in 1941, in Mario Soldati's "Piccolo mondo antico." She received a special Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her performance, and would go on to star in a number of American, French, and Italian films through the ensuing decades.
