Based on Benny Vigny's 1927 novel "Amy Jolly, die Frau aus Marrakesch," an autobiographical story based on his own experiences in Marrakesh while serving in the French Foreign Legion. The film is today best remembered for a scene in which Dietrich performs in a man's tailcoat and kisses another woman. Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Dietrich.
